area and volume

1. triangles

   • the equation is base x height ÷ 2
   • 3 x 6 ÷ 2 = 9 cm2

2. quadrilaterals

   • most of them use the same equation base x height
   • trapeziums use a different equation and it is (a + b) x h ÷ 2

3. compound shapes

   • to find the area of a compound shape you have to split it into rectangles and squares or any quadrilateral
   • calculate the area of the shapes you have made in the shape and add them together

4. circles

   • to find the area of a circle you do the equation πr2
   • to find the radius you get the diameter of the circle and half it

5. prisms

   • to find the volume of a prism you take the area of its cross-sections and times it by the length of the prism

6. cylinder

   • to find the volume of a cyder you do the equation π x radius2 x height
