Threats to data

1. Opportunity threats

   • Threats from people who see an opportunity.
     • Example: an unattended computer.

2. Computer viruses

   • Malicious programs that try to replicate and spread across a computer or network.

3. Other malware

   • Nasty software that is aiming to cause damage or steal data.
     • Examples: Trojans, worms, adware and spyware.

4. Phishing

   • A fake e-mail or website that is trying to trick the user into handing over personal data.

5. Accidental dammage

   • This could be floods, fires or hurricanes, or damage from untrained users.

6. Hackers

   • People who try to purposely gain unauthorised access.
     • A high proportion of hackers are internal to the organisation.
