Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

1. Analysis

   • This is the first step, when the development team decides what the software needs to do. Mainly addressing what the user will want from the program. Questions that may be asked include; Who is going to use it; What information will the user input; What information does it need to output.

2. Design

   • The design is decided by breaking down the program into smaller pieces. This includes thinking about the appearance of the software, and the team will often represent this by using diagrams and pseudocode.

3. Implementation

   • This stage is where the code for the program is written, the development team will find this stage much easier if they achieved to write good pseudocode. The code that the program would be written would normally be a high-level language.

4. Testing

   • The team tests the program under various conditions to ensure the reliability and integrity of the code. At this stage the team starts to think about what the software may work on and what kind of things would cause it to crash.

5. Evolution

   • At this stage the program is ready to be launched, but once released needs to be constantly updated and maintained. The software needs to be constantly maintained to make sure it works on any new systems, such as smart phones etc. Another reason for maintenance is to ensure any bugs are ironed out to benefit the user’s experience.
     • Adaptive = Make changes to the program to account for new conditions e.g. new OS or hardware
     • Perfective = Add new features to the program
     • Corrective = Fix any errors that are discovered in the program
