CPR

  1. What is?

    • Is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.
  2. Causes of sudden death?

    • Poisoning, drowning, suffocation, suffocation, electrocution, or inhalation of smoke, the most common cause is a heart attack.
  3. Objective

    • The objective is to delay tissue death and to extend the brief window of opportunity for a successful resuscitation without permanent brain damage
  4. Administration of an electric shock to the subject's heart, termed defibrillation, is usually needed in order to restore a viable, or "perfusing", heart rhythm.

    • Defibrillation is effective only for certain heart rhythms, namely ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia, rather than asystole or pulseless electrical activity
  5. Prone CPR

    • Standard CPR is performed with the person in supine position.
    • Prone CPR, or reverse CPR, is performed on a person lying on their chest, by turning the head to the side and compressing the back.
    • Due to the head being turned, the risk of vomiting and complications caused by aspiration pneumonia may be reduced
  6. STEPS
