Workbook
A collection of multiple worksheets
- Worksheet: a grid of rows and columns containing numbers and text.
- Structure
- There can be as much as 65536 (256x256) rows and 256 columns in a spreadsheet. In Excel, rows are given numberical labels (1,2,3), while columns are given alphabetical labels. These spreadsheets are comprised of cells.
- Cells are where a row and column meet. Each cell has a cell coordinate(Isn’t it romantic (!) ). Examples of this are A1, C5, Z34
- Cells can have numerical data within them, called values (ex. currency, age, percentages).
- Calculations
- Often times in Excel, users have to calculate values whether out of neccessity or for ease. When that happens, they turn to Excel's ingrained caluculation system
- Users can start a calculation by typing "=" into a cell. Then they can use ranges, values and cell coordinates to create the expression to the solution they need (Ex. =1984(D4+(A1:G1))
- There are preset mathematical formulas that assist a user's speed in calculations. These are called functions. Ex. =SUM(B2:E2)
- Above the Worksheet there's a horizontal white rectangle with the letters "Fx" in them called the formula bar. The formula bar allows users to create equations with more space opposed to the usually small cell

- Labels are alphanumerical data ("2017" or "Sunday") that describes the values in the worksheet
- Calculations
- An active cell is a cell surronded by a thick, green border
- An active cell(s) have a box at the very bottom-right corner of it. If the cursor hovers over this box, the cursor becomes a white plus symbol. Dragging this plus symbol vertically of horizontally will make the contents of a cell copy to other cells
- Cells can have numerical data within them, called values (ex. currency, age, percentages).
- A range is a rectangular group of adjacent cells. Ex (A3:A8) (From A3 to A8).
