HOW COMPUTERS WORK

  1. input

    • An input device is something you connect to a computer that sends information into the computer
  2. output

    • An output device is something you connect to a computer that has information sent to it
  3. binary

    • Binary is a number system that only uses two digits: 1 and 0. All information that is processed by a computer is in the form of a sequence of 1s and 0s. Therefore, all data that we want a computer to process needs to be converted into binary.
  4. CPU (Central Pro- cessing Unit)

    • Executes programs using the fetch-decode-execute cycle. It’s a bit like the brain of the computer,
  5. Memory

    • Stores program operations and data when a program is being executed.
  6. Storage

    • Storage is where your files and computer programs are kept permanently so that you can get hold of them at any time. They won't be lost when the computer is switched off.
  7. Motherboard

    • This is the main printed circuit board which computer components are plugged into.
