  1. Data interface

    • How is JSON presented?
      • The data must be formated appropriately so that it is readable to customers/visitors .
        • Tables
          • Rows
          • Columns
          • Cells
          • Headings
        • Raw JSON
          • { ... properties: { "birth_year": "19 BBY", "eye_color": "Blue", "films": [ "https://www.swapi.tech/api/films/1/", ... ], "gender": "Male", "hair_color": "Blond", "height": "172", "homeworld": "https://www.swapi.tech/api/planets/1/", "mass": "77", "name": "Luke Skywalker", "skin_color": "Fair", "created": "2014-12-09T13:50:51.644000Z", "edited": "2014-12-10T13:52:43.172000Z", "species": [ "https://www.swapi.tech/api/species/1/" ], "starships": [ "https://www.swapi.tech/api/starships/12/", ... ], "url": "https://www.swapi.tech/api/people/1/", "vehicles": [ "https://www.swapi.tech/api/vehicles/14/" ... ] } }
            • Programmatically transformed JSON
              • birthyear: 19 BBY eye colour: Blue gender: Male hair colour: Blond height: 172 mass: 77 name: Luke Skywalker skin-color: Fair created: 9th of December 2024 edited: 10th of December 2014
        • HTML
          • It is the standard language used to create the structure and content of web pages.
        • CSS
          • It’s a language used to control the style and layout of HTML elements on a web page.
  2. Data structures

    • How is JSON structured from API?
      • Keys
        • Primary key
          • A primary key is a unique identifier for each data item in a dataset, database table, or JSON object collection.
        • Foreign key
          • A foreign key is a field that links one database to another in a different table or dataset. It references the primary key of another table.
        • Composite key
          • A composite key is a combination of two or more fields that together uniquely identify a data item in a dataset or table.
      • Values
        • This is the actual data assigned to a key
      • Arrays
        • This can contain multiple items of any data type, often objects.
  3. Data specifications

    • Different Data used in JSON
      • Data Types
        • Data types define the kind of data that each key in a JSON object holds. JSON supports a limited amount set of types, which align with many programming languages. This ensure APIs behave predictably, and front-end apps know how to display or process each value properly.
          • Number
            • {"age":12}
          • Boolean
            • {"sale":true}
          • null
            • {"Lastname":null}
          • string
            • {"name":"Bob"}
      • Constraints/validation
        • Constraints define rules or restrictions for what values are valid. Validation ensures that incoming data meets those rules before it's accepted or processed. This prevents harmful input such as broken formats and improves data quality and predictability. This also helps users understand what is to be expected when submiting to an API.
      • Data lengths
        • Data length refers to the size limits placed on data values, especially for strings and arrays. It prevents excess data from breaking the UI or exceeding storage limits and improves performance by controlling payload size.
