  1. Prescribed and Self-Determined Criteria

    • Prescribed Criteria
      • Define and use a custom function to draw an element of your picture
        • Requirements
          • Illustrate stars of a constellation
          • Draw different patterns
          • Use variables like x and y for coordinates
      • Use multiple colours to enhance visual appeal
        • Requirements
          • Aboriginal colours such as warm tones including reds, yellows, etc must be used
          • Include cooler colours to represent constellations
          • Both CSS and Arcade colours to be used
      • Clearly reflect the selected theme (either Journey or Aboriginal Astronomy)
        • Requirements
          • Use shapes like lines and circles
          • Warm and cool tone colours used
          • Include patterns and significant symbols
    • Self Determined Criteria
      • At least one aspect of the design must be animated
        • Requirements
          • Constellation animated to shine brightly
          • Colour of animated objects must be modified
          • Must use a flickering effect to animate the stars
            • This was used instead of the standard way of animating in Arcade to simplify the code, as this is the only element to be animated
  2. Coding Considerations

    • Code Samples
      • Draw a filled rectangle
        • arcade.draw_lrbt_rectangle_filled(0, 599, 0, 300, arcade.csscolor.GREEN)
      • Draw a filled circle
        • arcade.draw_circle_filled(100,450,50,arcade.csscolor.WHITE)
    • Packages
      • Arcade
        • drawing, animation, input
          • Used in image to draw shapes to represent objects and landscapes
      • playsound
        • playing audio files
      • pygame
        • 2D library, handles graphics
      • Random
        • used to generate random numbers within a range
          • Used in image to generate a random number between 0.8 and 1.2 for the width of the stars to animate them
    • Constraints
      • Must adhere to prescribed and self determined criteria
        • Should adhere to the requirements specified
      • Time limit
        • Draft copy due Wk7 Friday
      • Program must be written in Python
        • Arcade package must be used to create drawing
        • Thonny used for IDE
  3. Python Drawing

    • Loops
      • Usage
        • To create multiple objects at different locations
        • To create gradient backgrounds
          • Purple coloured gradient used in sky
          • Orange gradient used in landscape
      • Example
        • "for i in range(200):", "arcade.draw_lrbt_rectangle_filled(0,600,0,600-i*3,(255,81+0.5*i,0+1*i))"
    • Example Shape Requirements
      • Circles
        • For creating aspects of the artwork including backgrounds
          • Used in the image to create the stars in the sky and as part of the constellation
      • Lines
        • For creating symbols and abstract designs
          • Used in the image to create the lines connecting the stars in the constellation
  4. Challenge Details

    • Theme
      • NAIDOC Week Digital Artwork
        • Indigenous knowledge of the stars
          • Cultural storytelling
    • Background
      • Colour
        • Red, orange, black, white, etc
          • Warm Tone
            • Red, orange, yellow, black
              • Used to represent the Australian landscape in the image
          • Cool Tone
            • Purple, blue
              • Used in the sky section of the image
      • Pattern
        • Circles, lines, arcs
    • Research
      • Symbolism
        • Constellations linked to ancestral figures, animals, events from the Dreaming
    • Existing Artwork
      • Aboriginal Artwork
        • Aboriginal Astronomy Artwork
          • Includes key constellations and star patterns within Aboriginal culture
            • The Orion constellation, among others, is part of Indigenous culture and was featured in the image
