   • high temperatures increase evaporation and transpiration reducing water
   • long periods of frigid weather freezing ground not allowing it to soak up water

2. Rainfall

   • amt. + type affects
   • Antecedent rainfall , any more surafce run off will happen
   • heavy continuous rainfall or melting snow more water

3. Relief

   • steep slope means runoff and no time for infilitaration

4. Land use

   • Urban areas have a lot of concrete used. does not allow ground to absorb water
   • more vegetation more infiltration as reduces speed of water
   • ploughing up and down creates channels for water to flow to river fatser

5. Rock and soil type

   • depends on permeabilty
   • impermeable rocks and sol allow more run off
   • porous ones allow water to pass through, reducing it very litlle
