1. Fire Wall

   • Prevents harmful data entering your computer.
   • Used to help protect a computer network from intruders.
   • Used when program is trying to connect to another network.
   • Controls which programs can send a receive data packets.
   • Used when program is trying to connect to another network.
   • You need to control where your data packets go as you don't want to download programs that are untrustworthy.
   • The consequences for not having firewall in a school are having viruses that could steal private data from pupils and make the computers fault.
     • The consequences for not having firewall at home are that someone could get hold of your personal information(bank details).
     • The consequences for not having firewall in a business are not being able to run a website so that would mean it could not get any profit from items as no-one would be able to buy anything.
   • It is important to have firewall because you can see what data packets are entering and leaving.

2. Anti-Virus

   • Scans the computer periodically.
   • Protects against malicious software.
   • Should be used on email attachments and downloads.
   • Quarantines any programs or files which are harmful.
   • Needs updating regularly to make sure that it knows the latest threat.
   • Anti-virus needs to updated regularly because it needs to be sure that it can stop new viruses that the last version didn't know existed.
   • The consequences for not having anti-virus in school are that the computers won't work because there will not be anything to check for viruses, this could then destroy programmes in which pupils had to use to work.
     • The consequences for not having anti-virus at home are stopping computers working so it could mess up how programs work and mess up your personal details.
     • The consequences for not having anti-virus in a business are that the virus could take over programs and put out the wrong messages on the website and the virus would spread to other computers in the business so no-one would be able to work.
   • It is important you have anti-virus because it can see what the new threats will so it can stop them.

3. Password

   • Passwords must be at least 8 characters long

4. Encryption

   • Encryption makes a letter have more privacy so that if it gets picked up they won't be able to decrypt the letter.
   • You encrypt data by making a key and using that key to send data to someone without anyone knowing what it means.
   • You decrypt a message by using a key that was used to encrypt the data.
   • We use encryption when we type our password in to log on to computers.

5. Internet Safety.

   • When you are buying products online you must check the reviews to see if the website is not a fraud.
   • Https needs to be used because if someone puts their details in they could be stolen. The https encrypts the data so no-one can access your personal details.
   • When you download free content you need to see if there are good reviews so your computer does not get viruses.
   • Check if the attachments have a https if it has you can download it.
   • Again check if it is a trusted website and if it has a https.
   • You need to make sure your password is between 8 and 16 characters including capital letters, numbers, lower case letters and punctuation.
   • You should use my tips because you want to have a password and so you know what to look out for if you question a site from being safe.
   • It is important to use a https so people's personal information is not given out.
   • Phishing.
     • Phishing starts off in emails as it is someone pretending to be someone else when they are not. They try and get you to fill out a form with your bank details so then they would be able to take from your bank.
     • Phishing is identity theft when they take control of your bank.

6. Malware.

   • The zombie virus is a computer that is connected to the internet by the user.
     • The user most of the time does not even know that he is doing a zombie.
   • The worm is when a single computer hacks into another computer.
