1. Analysis

2. Design

   • The programmer will consider the user interface and the structure of the program.

     • Two methods of design

3. Implementation

   • The actual program code is written at the implementation stage.
   • The code is normally written in a high-level language, like Visual Basic or Java, and this is known as source code.

4. Testing

   • Normal
     • Data the program should expect to handle. e.g. 2, 25, 45
   • Extreme
     • Data at the limits of what the program should handle. e.g. 1, 50
   • Exceptional
     • Data which the program has not been designed to handle. -5, 55, Hello, @

5. Documentation

   • Documentation is produced to assist users with the installation and features of the software.
   • User Guide - Provides information on the features of the software and may include a series of lessons called tutorials.
   • Technical Guide - Provides details on how to install the software and the system requirements for the program including type of processor, RAM and hard disk space.
