  6. confuse familiarity with structures and lexis with mastery
  7. bring learning habits to class
  8. broad category
3. Advance
  1. cope with wide range of activities
  2. may feel they have nothing to learn
  3. able to fully express abstract ideas and move in concrete domain
  4. can be a problem with mixed levels
  5. may not accept language presentation
  6. may require streaming and individual attention
classes
1. Monolingual
  1. all share the same mother tongue
  2. teacher can speak L1
  3. can discourage use of L2
  4. errors and mistakes will be fairly similar
  5. errors can be reinforced - especially pronunciation
2. Multilingual
  1. travel to learn english
  2. join companies that use english
  3. communication will be in English
  4. scope for communicative actives and to share cultural information
  5. teacher might have less opportunity to focus on particular nationalities pronunciation or other problem areas
3. one on one
  1. often learning Business English
  2. particular requirements
  3. intensive short course to fit into their schedule
  4. most rewarding/highest paid
EFL
1. learn L2 initially to survive
2. then to integrate more fully into host community
ESP
1. English for special Purposes
2. medical/ technical
