1. 3D printing

   • 3D objects created by adding layers of powder or resin to an inject printer
   • files created by CAD or CAM, then outputting series of slices to a computer, each slice is printer on top of another tyo create a solid 3D object
   • normally created as prototypes
   • used in- technology, engineering, aerospace, jewellery design

2. artificial intelligence

   • simulating human intelligence
   • only possible to carry out observable tasks, computer doesnt have abrain as it is limited to pre-progammed actions
   • used in- creating chess game progammes, expert systems

3. vision enhancement

   • active systems- use infra red beams from a asmall sensor in rear view mirror. Range of 500 feet. Normally displayed in bottm of windscreen
   • passive systems- thermal imaging camera, which has a large sensor. Range of 1000 feet but problems in hot conditions
   • night vision goggles and binoculars used by military

4. virtual reality

   • simulated environment created by computer
   • experience it by wearing special gloves, suit and headset. clothing contains input and output devices to interact with environment
   • examples- training for pilots, parachute training, medical training, phobia therapy, video gaming

5. 3D and holographic imaging

   • 3D imaging used in- medical and commercial motoring design applications
   • holograms- 3D photographic images that have depth to them
   • holographic imaging used in- gaming industry, film industry
   • need special glasses uinles build in to screen/tv

6. Quantum cryptography

   • using the quantum property of light or protons is used
   • extremely secure, believed to be un breakable
   • of anyone attempts to read it both the seder and the reciever know
   • used in- transmission of voting results in elections, banks when making electronic transfers between different countries.
