   • Arguing that their underdeveloped because of their traditional values.

2. Barries of Development

   • Particularism - is being placed in a job based on particular family relationships, rather than ability.
   • Collectivism
   • Patriarchy
   • Ascribed status

3. Morden Values

   • Universalism- the idea that the best jobs are open to anyone.
   • Individualism
   • Ideal of gender Equality
   • Achieved Status

4. Walts 5 stages of Economic Growth

   • Stage 1 - Traditional Societies
   • Stage 2 - The pre conditions for take off
   • Stage 3- Take off stage
   • Stage 4 - The drive to Maturity
   • Stage 5 the Age of High Mass consumption

5. Evalution

   • No examples of countries that have followed Walts's 5 stages of growth accurately.
   • Its assumes western civilisation is technically & morally superior to traditional societies.
