The human nervous system

The human nervous system

1. central nervous system (CNS)

   • brain
   • spinal cord

2. peripheral nervous system (PNS)

   • automatic nervous system (ANS)
     • sympathetic nervous system
     • parasympathetic nervous system
   • voluntary nervous system (VNS)
     • sensory neurons
     • motor neurons

3. From stimulus to reaction

   • stimulus
     • sensor
       • sensory neurons
         • CNS
           • motor neurons
             • effector
               • reaction

4. Neuron structure and conduction process (1-6)

   • 1. dendrites
     • 2. cell body (soma)
       • cell organelles (neucleus...)
       • 3. axon hillock
         • 4. axon
           • insulating sheath
             • 5. synaptic terminal
               • 6. synapse
                 • other neurons
                 • gland cells
                 • muscle cells
                 • A. AP reaches synaptic terminal. Synaptic vesicles fuse with cell membrane.
                   • B. Synaptic vesicles release neurotransmitter into synaptic cleft.
                     • C. Neurotransmitter binds to receptor (target cell)
                       • D. An electrical impulse is triggered (auslösen).
                         • E. Neurotransmitter is recycled in the synaptic terminal.
                       • Neurotransmitter = Botenstoffe
                 • Neurotoxin
                   • nicotine
                   • botox
                   • flying agaric (Fliegenpilz), deadly nightshade (Tollkirsche)
                   • black widow spider bite
             • saltatory conduction
             • continous conduction
