Malcolm
Fair and honest. Unlike Duncan Malcom realises that they are in danger from them closest to them.
- "There's daggers in mens smiles, the near'r in blood The nearer bloody"
- He has the common sense to leave Scotland after Duncan is murdered.
He learns that he should only trust people who have proved their loyalty - when Macduff visits him Malcolm test his loyalty by pretending to be a tyrant.
- "all things foul would wear the brows of grace"
Act 4 is a key act for Malcolm as it where Macduff goes to England to help Malcolm raise an army against Macbeth.
- Malcolm however does not trust Macduff and this shows the fear that Macbeth has created.
- Malcolm creates dramatic irony when he thinks that because Macduffs family hasn't been harmed he must be supporting Macbeth
Malcolm is wise - "Wisdom plucks me From over credulous haste"
- Malcolm is honest - "delight No less in the truth than life"
