CHAPTER 3 PROCESSES

1. - a program in execution must process in sequential fashion. - process is created when we clicked a program

     • Ready
       • the process is waiting to be assigned to a processor.

       • instruction are being executed.

       • the process has finished execution

4. Context Switch

   • - occurs when there is exist of an interrupts. - it will keep the information when interrupt occurs.

5. Process Central Block (PCB)

   • keep information for the process

6. Interprocess Communication

   • communication that inoled more than one process.
     • 1. independent 2. cooperating
   • two (2) models of IPC 1. Shared Memory 2.Message Passing

7. Operations on Processors

   • 1. Process Creation
     • Parent Process created children processes, which in turn create other processes, forming a tree of processes
   • 2. Process Termination
     • Process executes last statement and then ask the operating system to delete it using the exit() system call.

8. Process Schedulling

   • (i) Job Queue
     • set of all system in the processes
   • (ii) Ready Queue
     • set of all processes residing in main memory, ready, waiting and to execute.
   • (iii) Deice Queue
     • set of processes waiting for an I/O deices

9. Schedulers

   • (i) Short-term scheduler
     • known as 'CPU Scheduler'
   • (ii) Long-term scheduler
     • known as 'Job Scheduler'
   • (iii) Medium-term Scheduler
     • swapping process
