Cloud storage
Definition
- Cloud storage is where files created and used on one or more computers or devises are stored and managed remotely
- These files are stored on servers so that they can be accessed on the internet.
- When you want to access the media, the data is downloaded or streamed to the devise you wish to use it on. It remains in the cloud unless you remove or delete the media.
- Data on your devise can also be uploaded to the cloud.
Key Terms

- Uploading
- Uploading a document or file to the server means it can be accessed by you ( And other with permission from you), although your devise will need to be connected to the internet.

Features
- Internet service providers often give users a cloud storage allocation as part of their phone or tablet contract. For example, iPhone, in early 2018 gave 5GB.
- You can synchronise with the cloud. For example you could sync the photo library on your phone with the iCloud so that photos taken are backed up and can be accessed from any devise.
- Cloud storage is useful for storing backups of your files. Copies of the files are made on different servers so they are protected if attacked or in the case of a natural disaster, such as fire or flood.
