Types of databases

  1. Relational databases

    • A table in relational databases holds different types of information where data can be inputted such as: a delivery of an item, a customers detail etc.
    • Easy levels of access
    • Modifications of data can be easily executed
    • Features
      • Information separated into discrete Entities
        • Based on the real world
        • E.g employees, products, orders
      • Entities are described as a series of fields
        • It describes the structure of the entities
        • E'g: product name, weight, price
      • Entities are connected by a series of relationships
        • Built using common fields
  2. Flat databases

    • Using a flat database is just literally typing down information, on one table, given to the user to type up in a table. This would increase the chance of human errors such as:
      • Misspelt words
      • Repetition of orders for a customer
  3. Local databases

    • One specific user can have access to a local database as it's restricted to only them and no one else
    • Example of local database
      • In a school: fianance, ability to add/ edit/ delete data of a user
  4. Network databases

    • A wide branch of people can use and access this type of database from different computers within the network premise
  5. Online databases

    • Examples of people/companies that would use this
      • Facebook (log in details)
      • Amazon
      • Google
      • Tesco
    • Why it would be utilized
      • Keeping users updated on what events that are occurring around the database
