1. Key terms

   • Algorithm
     • instructions that tell you how to solve a problem usually represented in a flowchart or pseudocode
   • decompose
     • breaking down a large problem into smaller problems to solve it quicker.
   • abstraction
     • a way of representing real world problems onto a computer using variables and symbols whilst removing unecessary elements from the problem
   • algorithm thinking
     • identifying the steps to solving a problem
   • sequence
     • completing steps in order of which they must happen
   • selection
     • when a choice is made in a program depending on the condition or outcome
   • iteration
     • repeating or looping sections of a code

2. flowcharts

   • displays an algorithm in a different way
   • lines show the flow of information on the diagram
   • always start and end with either START or STOP

3. pseudocode

   • == equal to
   • != not equal to
   • < less than
   • <= less than or equal to
   • > greater than
   • >= greater than or equal to
