1. Differential movements

   • Differential movement occurs when independent structural components are adjoined at different parts of the building.

     • •  The small pulley at the top will be driven in opposite directions and  impart motion to the pinion.
     • • Different velocity given to two gears, A and C, on the same shaft, by the pinion, B.
     • • Mangle or star-wheel, for producing an alternating rotary motion.
     • • The vertical shaft is made to drive the horizontal one in either direction.
     • • Two kinds of universal joints.

   • An eccentric is a circular disk (eccentric sheave) solidly fixed to a rotating axle with its centre offset from that of the axle.
