Hardware Virtualization
Full Virtualization:
- the hardware architecture is completely simulated. Guest software doesn't need any modification to run any applications.
- virtual machine permit the execution of the instructions with running of unmodified OS in an entire isolated way.
- Full Virtualization is less secure
- uses binary translation and direct approach as a technique for operations.
- Slower than para Virtualizaton
- more portable and compatible.
- Eg: Microsoft and Parallels systems.
Para-Virtualization
- the hardware is not simulated; instead, the guest software runs its isolated system.
- virtual machine does not implement full isolation of OS but rather provides a different API which is utilized when OS is subjected to alteration
- virtualization is more secure than the Full Virtualization.
- uses hypercalls at compile time for operations.
- Faster than full virtualization
- Less portable and compatible.
- Eg: VMware and Xen.
Hardware-assisted virtualization
- Hardware-assisted virtualization is the use of a computer's physical components to support the software that creates and manages Virtual Machines.
