Equlibrium
Dynamic
Static
The tendency of a system to return to its original state after any given disturbance
- Stable
- Dynamic
- When there are constant inputs and outputs of matter and energy, but the system remains almost the same
- Negative Feedback stabilizes dynamic equilibrium by counteracting any deviation. This acts as a self regulation system. A good example would be when a system returns to its regular state after any change in climate
- Negative Feedback: When after a disturbance a system returns to its original state and they stabilize precisely by reducing the change applied.
- FEEDBACK LOOPS
- Negative Feedback: When after a disturbance a system returns to its original state and they stabilize precisely by reducing the change applied.
- Examples: An ant population where the death and birth rates are the same, so even though there are disturbances, the net population is kept the same.
- Negative Feedback stabilizes dynamic equilibrium by counteracting any deviation. This acts as a self regulation system. A good example would be when a system returns to its regular state after any change in climate
- When there are constant inputs and outputs of matter and energy, but the system remains almost the same
- A type of equilibrium in which the system tends to return to its original state after a distrubance
- Dynamic
- Unstable
- A type of equlibrium in which the system forms a new equilibrium after a disturbance
- Static
- A type of equilibrium in which there is no change over time. The forces and components stay the same unless there is an external disturbance which would form a new equilibrium.
- Example: A pile of books sitting over a table, and someone knocks it over.
- Positive feedback: When a disturbance causes a new form of equilibrium and they destabilize to increase change.
- FEEDBACK LOOPS
- A type of equilibrium in which there is no change over time. The forces and components stay the same unless there is an external disturbance which would form a new equilibrium.
- Static
- A type of equlibrium in which the system forms a new equilibrium after a disturbance
- Stable
RESILIENCE
- A system's resistance to disturbance, good resilience means a more stable equilibrium
TIPPING POINT
- The point in which a system can not tolerate more changes and it forms a "new" equilibrium
