Network security
Firewall
- Protects against data flowing through to a system.
- Helps to defend against unknown data coming into a system
- It can stop people from connecting to your network and accessing your files
Encryption
- An encryption will defend against files/data being accessed
- Keeps computers/people from accessing data without having the encryption code
- Encryption can stop pictures/documents from being accessed and stops others from seeing files
- What could happen without encryption
- Personal files could be seen by anyone with access to it which means that any private photos and or documents could be accessed by anyone
Passwords
- A word/phrase used to protect against personal files being accessed
- Only the user will know the password
- These are the second defence from data being accessed
- What would happen without passwords
- Anyone could access personal data on a desktop/pc/mobile device etc.
- This could lead to systems being tampered with and could mean that anyone could access it
Physical Security
- Doors/cages for computers
- This can provide additional security from access to data.
- Anything that provides security that is not computer generated
- Without physical security damage could be caused to the system as in the physical motherboards etc.
- If there was no physical security then the systems/circuits could become damaged or could sustain a shut down from water etc.
- Doors/cages for computers
User access levels
- These are the specific groups of the levels of data a user can access
- This gives users different amounts of information which can be altered by the owner of the data
- These can say who can access what
- What would happen without user access levels
- Anyone could change settings on an document, meaning that the file could fall to pieces so to speak.
