  3. Procedure

    • Research Design
      • Identifying the objectives and defining the research question to be answered through the focus group.
      • Preparation of a list of questions (agenda or script) as a guide for each session. Request authorization from the participants.
    • Participant selection

      • Qualitative research data analysis techniques that can be used in focus groups include grounded theory analysis, content analysis, and discourse analysis.
    • Results and Reporting
      • Consolidate the results into a coherent research report for dissemination, highlighting key points according to the audience. In narrative or point-in-time format, it should have information on participants (gender, age, and education level).
      • Findings should be shared with study participants through a process called member checking, respondent validation, or participant validation to validate the results and thus increase the credibility of the report or study.
  4. Advantages

    • They are an alternative to obtain information from consumers without using tools that only produce quantitative data.
    • Use qualitative data collection methods.
    • Participants can interact, influence and be influenced, which provides practical insight into customers' knowledge of brands, products or services.
    • They are flexible by design
    • Researchers can listen to a person's tone and observe their body language to better understand how they feel about a particular topic.

    • Assess attitudes or any factors that influence people's behavior and preferences.
    • Generate anecdotes, identify patterns and insider views on prevailing norms or attitudes.
    • Obtain information on topics about which little is known.
