Data Exchange Methods

  1. Application and Systems for Method

    • JSON
      • JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a standard text-based format for representing structured based data on a JavaScript object syntax. It is most known and used for transmitting data from web applications like sending data from a client to server, so that it can be displayed and outputted. (mdn web docs , n.d.).
    • XML
      • Extendible Markup Language (XML) refers to letting you define and store data in a shareable manner. XML’s primary function is to create formats for data that is used to encode information for documentation, database records, transactions and many types of data. It essentially sterilises, transmits, and reconstructs arbitrary data. (Loshin, n.d.).
    • HTML
      • HTML is the standard markup language for creating Web pages. HTML describes the structure of a Web page. HTML consists of a series of elements. HTML elements tell the browser how to display the content. HTML elements label pieces of content such as "this is a heading", "this is a paragraph", "this is a link", etc.
    • CSS
      • CSS is the acronym of “Cascading Style Sheets”. CSS is a computer language for laying out and structuring web pages (HTML or XML)
    • Protocols
      • Network Protocols
        • A set of rules outlining how connected devices communicate across a network to exchange information easily and safely (SolarWinds , 2024)
        • Examples:• HTTP • TCP • IP • UDP • FTP • SFTP • DNS • UPN
      • Data Security
        • Examples: Authentication, Hashing, Encryptions
  2. Data

    • Data types
      • A data type is an attribute associated with a piece of data that tells a computer system how to interpret its value. Understanding data types ensures that data is collected in the preferred format and the value of each property is as expected.
      • Examples: Integer, Varchar, floating-point, Char, String.
    • Data Lengths
      • the size (number of bits) of the smallest unit of data that can be processed by the computer's central processing unit (CPU) in a single operation.
    • Constraints
      • Constraints are used to limit the type of data that can go into a table.
    • Validation
      • checking the accuracy and quality of source data before using, importing or otherwise processing data.
  3. Data Structures

    • Key
      • a value (often an integer) that is used to identify a certain component of a data-structure
    • Values
      • a specific way of organizing data in a specialized format on a computer so that the information can be organized, processed, stored, and retrieved quickly and effectively.
    • Arrays
      • a data structure consisting of a collection of elements (values or variables), of same memory size, each identified by at least one array index or key
