1. Wedge Shaped Organ 13-15cm long

2. Lies on Posterior Abdominal Wall at L1-L2

3. 3 PARTS

   • 1) HEAD OF PANCREAS
     • Lies in C shaped duodenal loop
     • Thickest part of organ
     • Hook shaped UCCINATE PROCESS projects posteriorly and inferiorly from the head of the pancreas surrounding the mesenteric vessels
     • Between head of pancreas and the uccinate process is a groove called PANCREATIC NOTCH
   • 2) BODY OF PANCREAS
     • Has an eminence near the neck called OMENTAL TUBEROSITY
       • OMENTAL TUBEROSITY projects into the OMENTAL BURSA
     • Lies infront of vertebral column and abdominal aorta

4. 3) TAIL OF PANCREAS

   • Extends to splenorenal ligament of the spleen

5. ARTERIAL SUPPLY

   • HEAD OF PANCREAS supplied by branches of Gastroduodenal artery
   • BODY & TAIL is supplied by Pancreatic branches whhich are branches of Splenic artery

6. VENOUS DRAINAGE

   • SPLENIC, SUPERIOR MESENTERIC Vein into HEPATIC PORTAL VEIN

7. NERVOUS SUPPLY

   • Sympathetic fibres by CELIAC PLEXUS
   • Parasympathetic by VAGUS NERVE

8. LYMPHATICS

   • Lymph from HEAD OF PANCREAS--->PANCREATICODUODENAL NODES
   • Lymph from BODY and TAIL OF PANCREAS----->PANCREATIC NODES
     • Pancreatic nodes lie on superior and inferior border of pancreas
