1. 1967

   • 'Abortion Act'
   • 2 doctors must agree one applies:
     • mothers life is at risk
     • wellbeing of an existing child would be put at risk
     • mothers physical/mental health may be at risk
     • substantial risk child may be born handicapped

2. 1990

   • abortions cannot take place after 24 weeks unless mother's life is at risk

3. PRO CHOICE

   • pro abortion
   • the woman should be the one to decide as it is her body
   • the woman should not be forced to go through with unwanted pregnancy
   • stopping abortion = more illegal backstreet clinics which are dangerous
   • EG: METHODIST/QUAKERS
   • rape victim reminded every time they look at the child.
   • 'Love they neighbour' - might be the most loving thing to do

4. PRO LIFE

   • anti - abortion
   • favour protecting the foetus. Believe life begins at conception.
   • believe foetus is a living/growing thing.
   • To destroy a foetus is to stop a life
     • Life is Holy so only God has the right to end a pregnancy
   • everyone has a natural right to life
   • EG: CATHOLICS/EVANGELICALS
