1. "I would...dashed the brains out"

   • She is willing to go to any extent for power.
   • At first one would think this is hyperbole, but as the play goes on we start to believe her.

2. "Take my milk for gall"

   • LM is telling spirits to make her more manlike, and rid of her female features.
   • Antithesis; milk is good, but gall is poison; lost her motherly bond

3. "You lack the season of all natures, sleep"

   • LM tells Macbeth to try and rest; ironic as Duncan was murdered in sleep

4. "Blood will lead to blood"

   • Admits that one crime will always link to another
   • blood is first and last word; beginning and end of all?

5. "give to the edge of the sword his babes,wife"

   • 1 murder isn't enough. Bringing women and babies in generates sympathy

6. "New widows howl, new orphans cry"

   • Macduff is going to kill many men.
   • Violence has wider impacts
