1. Mains Supply is AC

   • UK mains is supply is approximately 230 volts
   • The frequency is at 50 hertz
   • AC = Alternating Current

2. Battery is DC

   • DC = Direct Current
   • Cells and batteries supply DC
     • Current flow in the same direction

3. Electricity supplies can be shown on an Oscilloscope Screen

   • A Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO) is basically a voltmeter
   • When you plug an AC supply into an oscilloscope, you will get a 'trace' on the that shows how the voltage of the supply changes with time.
