How does Wayne McGregor describe/define choreography?
Wayne says choreography is the process of physical thinking in the mind and as well as in the body. A distributive/collaborative cognitive process.
How do you describe/define choreography?
Choreography is a process by which one truly discovers multiple ways to express emotion and tell a story through movement.
List the 3 versions of “physical thinking” process by Wayne McGregor? Explain what happens to his dancers during the three versions of physical thinking.
Body-to-Body Transfer- Steve used the TED to inspire his movement such as how he would move around it and go through it and the dancers took his movement, interpreted their way, and continued his movement slowly developing into a phrase.
Series of Provocations- Steve would tell his dancers what he wanted, while they were in a duet with each, without showing them the exact thing he wanted and they would take it and apply the movement to their bodies.
Task Based Method- This method is where the dancers take the previously told movements from methods 1) and 2) and figure out what it is they have gotten so far before Steve “organizes” the phrase.
Then he shows the audience the phrase that he’s come up with without even having set choreo for his dancers!!!
