Food Product Development- CC PP FML 1. Concept Generation: This is the "brainstorm" stage where the initial ideas are thought of. Market research is done here to see what competitors are doing.
Without this stage the development process cannot start.
2. Concept Screening: All the ideas from concept generation are analysed and any that might be costly, difficult to process or don't meet requirements are discarded. The best ideas are taken forward.
This is important because it allows the process to move away from ideas and develop actual possibilities.
3.Prototype Production: Examples are made to see what the product would look like.
This allows any changes to be made
4. Product Testing: The product is tested by a range of consumer groups to see if it is acceptable to the consumer. Using these opinions the product can be changed/refined.
This allows the manufacturer to gage opinion on the product to see if people like it.
5.First Production Run: The product is produced for the first time as a full production run so the item can be assessed.
This allows to manufacturer to have a small scale operation so it can take back the product if it's not popular. Any changes that need to be made will affect previous stages in the development.
6.Marketing Strategy: The manufacturer decides how to promote the product eg, an advertising campaign and decides where it will be sold.
The initial price of the product is decided.
7. Launch! The product is now on sale and sales figures are monitored strictly.
Promotion techniques are used to help promote sales of the product.
