Is an abreviation, Is a short way to put numbers that are really big and really small.

Example:

Where would the decimal point be?

move it until you leave 1 digit (right to left)

25,300,000,000,000 miles- 2.53x 10 (13)

move to the right until you leave a digit that is not a cero on the left (left to right)

0.0000000203 seconds- 2.03x10 (-8)

Exponent goes up <--- move left * Move right ---> Exponent goes down

positive numbers negative numbers

3,749,000,000- 3.749x10(9)

0.00005269- 5.269x10(-5)

813,000,000,000,000- 8.13x10(14)

0.000,000,0214- 2.14x10(-8)

To a regular Number:

7.921x10(8)- 792,100,000

8.2x10(-5)- 0.000082

4.13x10(3)- 4130

5.2216x10(-9)- 0.000000052216
