RAM

memory used by programs running

programs use memory to solve info required to run the software

RAM stores instructions that are sent to CPU to decoded and executed

volatile memory is were the contents of it is erased when the power is turned off

DRAM- moving RAM that needs to be refreshed ever 2 milliseconds (most common)

SRAM- does not need refreshing but uses more gates

ROM- read only memory, cannot be changed , on motherboard

BIOS- basic input/output system, makes sure all chips, hard drives, ports and CPU function together
