Ant hills are entrances and exits to ant colonies
Ant colonies can stretch as deep as 25 feet underground!
The QUEEN'S purpose is to found and lead the colony as well as lay eggs for it. Her chambers are located farther down in case of predator attacks. She has servants, drones, and workers. The queen has a large life span, sometimes for up to 30 years. She also has long wings.
The DRONE is a male ant who mates with the queen. They usually die after they accomplish this and are not encountered outside of the colony.
The WORKER'S job is to build, maintain the nest, protect the colony from invaders, and collect food. They are usually females, and they do not lay eggs. A worker's life span varies depending on species (a few weeks to a few years).
ALATES are winged male and female ants that establish new colonies once they are grown up. The females can sometimes become queens, while the males become drones and die quickly after mating.
Ant colonies usually survive as long as the queen does, but i specific among different species of ant
They can house up to a million ants
