The metric system was developed the late 1700´s, this system is now the International System of Units (SI). The units of the (SI) are meters, grams, liters.
1000 100 10 1 10 100 1000
Km Hecta Deca M,G,L Deci centi mm, mg, ml
If you were to divide 1m into 1000 parts, each part equals 1mm.
Conversion:
1000m = 1 KM
1000Km = 100,000m
1000cm= 10m
1000m= 100,000cm
1000mm= 1m
