The Laws of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamic: "thermal" meaning heat, and "dynamics" meaning moving or changing. Movement of thermal energy
Heat is energy on the move
Heat: the transfer of energy from a warmer object to a cooler object
Heat represents the movement or transfer of thermal energy
Joule: The standar unit of measure of energy, abbreviated as J
Temperature: A measurement of the average kinetic energy or molecular movement in an object or system
The more they move, the higher the temperture. The less they move, the lower the temperature.
A substance with higher kinetic energy with one with lower kinetic energy, the energy in this is transfered until it reaches balance. From high to low, until balance.
Everything includes thermodynamics
First Law of Thermodynamics: (conservation of energy) the amount of energy in the universe is a constant. Energy can be transferred rom one substance to another or transformed into other forms of energy , but it cannot be created or destroyed.
Energy can't disappear
Everything is movement - Everything is energy
Second Law of Thermodynamics: Energy always disperses from a more usable form of energy to a less usable form.
Entropy: The measurement of energy dispersal
The second law of thermodynamic states that heat cannot transfer from a cool object to a warmer object.
Once energy is converted one to another, it is less usable
Lower the temperature, less thermal energy there is to disperse
A lot of heat - A lot of entropy
Absolute zero: The temperature at which all molecular motion stops and entropy is zero.
Thrid Law of Thermodynamics: The entropy of a system absolute zero is zero.
Chemical Thermodynamics: The study of energy changes that accompany chemical reactions or physiscal changes in the state of matter
Cold is consideres the absence or lack of heat
A substance feels cold to us, because it takes heat away from us
Heat always flows from a warmer substance to a cooler substance
