THE QUANTUM MECHANICAL MODEL

The positively charged nucleus contains protons and neutrons. The electron cloud is a visual model of the probable location of the electrons in an atom. The probability of finding an electron idle higher in the denser regions of the cloud.

Different atomic orbitals are shown by letters. For a given principal greater than one, there is one S orbital.
