Be able to explore and explain Aquinas' understanding of natural law

. On Aquinas’s view, a law is “a rule or measure of human acts, whereby a person is induced to act or is restrained from acting”

describes a law as a “dictate of practical reason emanating from a ruler”

every law is ultimately derived from what he calls the eternal law

The “eternal law” refers to God’s providential ordering of all created things to their proper end.

the Good is the aim of a moral life

3 areas of interest-

God, kant pruposes the existence of God to allow us to achieve the supreme good,

Freedom, to have the duty to do something we must be able to do it, therefor Kant argues that humans by nature are free

immorality. acheiving the supreme good is an immense task.

ethics is more individual

Most precious possesion above anything else is good will. it is our duty

a human action is morally good when it is done for the sake of duty.

moral worth is measured by the motive behind ones actions
