-Skull is made up of 28 separate bones.

-Regions of the skull include: (in the cranium)

-Cranial vault (upper dome part of the skull)

-Cranial base

-Facial skeleton

-Upper jaw

-Acoustic cavities (ears)

-Interior cavities (interior of skull, housing brain)

-Basic role is to protect the brain, the organs of special sense such as the eyes, and the cranial parts of the breathing and digestive systems.

-Provides attachment for many of the muscles of the neck and head.
