• General Ludwig resigned from the German army after they defeated Austria
• He led a conspiracy against Hitler within the armed forces, in coordination with Karl Goerdeler
• They made an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler in March 1943
• There were many other attempts to take the life of Hitler and end the war

Opposition During the War

• July 1944 Bomb Plot:
• The aim of Operation Valkyrie was to kill Hitler and take control of Berlin using the armed forces
• 22 July 1944 - Colonel Claus von Stauffenburg left a leather bag under a table in Hitler's headquarters in east Berlin
• When Hitler arrived, Stauffenburg left the room and the bomb exploded
• Four people were killed in total
• While Hitler only suffered minor injuries
• The result of events like this led to the killing of around 5,000 people who were suspected of plotting to kill Hitler
