- 1What is drag?Drag is another name for air resistance or water resistance
- 2How do you reduce drag?To reduce drag you can either drive at a slower pace thus causing particles to not hit the vehicle as hard or create a streamline shape, this makes it easier for particles to go over and around the shape.
- 3How does using balanced forces to reduce the drag on a vehicle help reduce the fuel consumption? For example, a lorry engine uses its engine to create a force which helps to balance the forces of drag friction. If the drag on the lorry is less then the engine will not have to work as hard to keep balancing the forces, this then makes it so the lorry engine does not need to work as hard, using less fuel.
- 4Explain how pressure depends on the size of the force and the size of the area is pushing onIf the force is the same the pressure on a large surface area will be low whereas on a small surface area the pressure will be high.
If you keep the surface area size the same the pressure will be low if the force is small. Whereas if the force large the pressure will be high. - 5What are the units for pressure?pascals (Pa)
- 6What is the equation for pressure?Pressure=force/surface area.
- 7How can pressure beneath a vehicle be reduced? To reduce the amount of pressure beneath a vehicle you can make the vehicle wider, this increases the surface area which means less pressure will be applied to the road.
- 8Describe some everyday applications of pressure. It is easier to it something with a sharp knife then a blunt knife, this is due to the fact you do not need to force the knife down as much because you need force to cut something, if the surface area is smaller the force will be more concentrated.
- 9When do magnets attract and repels each other?South attracts North, North attracts South, South repels south and north repels north.
- 10What variables affect strength of an electro magnet?-increase Amount of coils
-Increase the current in the wire
-Change the core of the magnet - 11How are electro magnets used?Electro magnets are used to levitates trains called maglevs?
- 12What is the magnetic field of a bar magnet? The to ends are always pointing at the poles. The lines form outwards of the poles.
- 13How do compass work? When you place the compass down it will point to the north this is because of the earths magnetic field.
- 14What is a lever?A simple machine which can increase the size of the force or the distance the force moves.
- 15What do we uses leavers for?We can use leavers for, taking nails out of a piece of wood, to flush toilets, to open bottles and to lift cars up.
