- 1TRI meansTechnical Rescue Incident (special rescue involving vehicles, machinery, water/ice, rope techniques, trench or excavation collapse, confined spaces, structural collapse, wilderness search and rescue, or HAZMAT).
- 2Awareness LevelAn introduction, emphasized on awareness & recognition, calling for assistance. No rescue skills.
- 3Operations levelGeared towards working in the 'warm' zone. Assistance of those conducting rescue.
- 4Technician levelAllows you to be directly involved in all aspects of the rescue operation itself.
- 5Hot ZoneThe area for entry and rescue teams only. Immediately surrounds the dangers of the site.
- 6Warm ZoneFor properly trained and equipped personnel only. Where personnel and equipment decon and hot zone support takes place.
- 7Cold ZoneArea for staging vehicles and equipment. Contains the command post. Public and media are NOT to be in this zone.
- 8Lockout and Tagout SystemsIntended to ensure that the electricity has been shut off.
- 9PackagingThe process of preparing the victim for movement as a unit.
- 10Supplied Air RespiratorA confined space tool similar to SCBA. A mask connected via long hoseline back to an air supply located outside the confined space.
- 11Low-angle operationsWhen the slope of the ground is less than 45 degrees.
- 12High-angle OperationsWhen the slope of the ground is greater than 45 degrees.
- 13ShoringA structure system that supports the sides of an excavation designed to prevent cave-ins.
- 14Secondary CollapseA subsequent collapse in a building or excavation.
