Question Answer
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM This system lets us inhale oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
WHAT IS OXYGEN USED FOR IN OUR BODY? To get energy from nutrients.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM It carries blood with oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body and collects waste substances and carbon dioxide.
EXCRETORY SYSTEM This system cleans the blood of waste substances in the form of urine and sweat and eliminates them from the body.
WHAT DOES THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM CONSIST OF? It consists of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
WHAT DOES OUR BLOOD GIVE TO OUR CELLS? Oxygen and nutrients.
WHICH WASTE PRODUCT DOES OUR BLOOD HELP GET RID OF? Carbon dioxide
WHAT DOES THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DO? It helps us breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide
WHICH MUSCLE, FOUND BELOW THE LUNGS, HELPS US TO BREATHE? The diaphragm.
WHAT IS THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM MADE UP OF? It is made up of (nose and mouth) larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, and lungs.
WHAT ARE VOCAL CORDS FOR? They vibrate and make sound.
WHICH PART OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM CONTAINS THE VOCAL CORDS? The larynx.
HOW WORKS THE DIAPHRAGM? It contracts and relaxes to let us breathe in and out.
NOSTRILS Two holes in the nose through which we breathe, smell, and (sometimes) sneeze.
WHAT IS THE NASAL CAVITY FOR? It moistens and filters the air that comes into the body.
ALVEOLI Very small air sacs in the lungs.
LUNGS Spongy organs where gas exchange occurs.
THE 3 PHASES IN THE RESPIRATION PROCESS Inhalation, gas exchange, and exhalation.
THE 3 TYPES OF BLOOD VESSELS Arteries, veins, and capillaries.
HOW DOES THE HEART WORK? It contracts (pushes the blood into the arteries, to the rest of the body) and relaxes (fills with blood coming from the veins) automatically.
BLOOD The red liquid that carries the nutrients and oxygen our body needs. It also transports the waste substances that our body eliminates.
HEARTBEAT The continuous contracting and relaxing of the heart.
WHAT IS THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM MADE UP OF? Kidneys, ureters, the bladder, and urethra.
WHICH ORGANS CLEAN WASTE FROM OUR BLOOD? Kidneys.
WHERE DOES URINE COLLECT BEFORE IT LEAVES THE BODY? In the bladder.
WHAT IS URINE MADE UP OF? The waste combines with water to make urine.
HOW DOES URINE LEAVE THE BODY? Through the urethra.
KIDNEYS Filter waste products from the blood and return the clean blood back to the circulatory system
WHAT DOES THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM CONSIST OF? The urinary system and the sweat glands.
WHAT DO SWEAT GLANDS CONSIST OF? A tube that filters the blood and a pore that opens to the outside.
WHAT DO THE SWEAT GLANDS PRODUCE? SWEAT
SWEAT A mixture of waste substances and water.
WHERE DO THE NUTRIENTS THAT OUR BLOOD CARRIES TO OUR CELLS COME FROM? The food we eat, and the oxygen we breathe.
