What is the requirement for Display Screen Equipment Regulations? Employees will have free eye tests if they use VDU's as a significant part of their work and if they need glasses, the basic pair will be paid for by the company.
What are employers required to do in terms of Health and Safety? Give out information about Health and Safety and talk to the employees about the equipment and how to use it.
What is the HSE and what is it's purpose? It is the Health and Safety Executive and it keeps reports of accidents within the office.
How much is lost the economy as a result of accidents in the work place? £5 million through absence, illness and staff turn-over.
What do the initials RSI stand for? Repetitive Stain Injury.
What are the symptoms of RSI? Wrist ache, Aching muscles, Fatigue, Neck ache, Headaches etc.,
What type of office is the call centre? Open Plan.
What does the term hotdesking mean? First come, first served.
What problems are associated with hot desking? The desks, chairs and computers are not at the right height for each separate employee which could cause problems like back pain or neck ache etc.,
What causes sick building syndrome and what are some of the common symptoms? When the building is a sealed building (windows closed) it causes Sick Building Syndrome. Some symptoms are headaches, sore throats and a runny nose.
Name three ways in which accidents can happen in an office Tripping over wires, Glare from windows/computer screens and having your chair/computer at the wrong height so it causes back ache or neck ache.
Why has stress increased in the work place? Reducing number of staff so there is more work for the others so many are over-working, causing stress and they may give out a negative atmosphere which makes others stressed.
What can the responsible employer do to reduce stress in the work place? Make sure the employees are working effectively but not over-working as this will make them and others stressed. The employer should make sure they have a break every hour, too.
When is a Health and Safety policy required? When the company has 5 or more employees.
How many employers are needed for a firm to be required to have an accident book? 10 or more employees.
When is a trained first aider required? 50 or more employees.
What happens if an employer fails to comply with Health and Safety laws? They may be fined.
