Question Answer
What are the building blocks of life? Cells and DNA
What are cells? Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. The human body is composed of trillions of cells. They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialized functions.
What is the cell theory? Cell theory is a scientific theory which describes the properties of cells. These cells are the basic unit of structure in all organisms and also the basic unit of reproduction.
What are organelles? Organelles are small, specialized structures in cells which operate like organs by carrying out specific tasks.
What are mitochondria? Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell. They are organelles that act like a digestive system which takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy rich molecules for the cell.
What are lysosomes? Organelles that get rid of wastes for cells.
What is endoplasmic reticulum? Pathways along in which materials move through a cell.

What are ribosomes? Structures that produce protien.
What is chloroplast? An organelle within a cell where photosynthesis takes place.
What is the difference between an animal and a plant cell? Animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts but plant cells do. Animal cells are round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes.
What is photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make their own food.

What are unicellular organisms? A unicellular organism, also known as a single-celled organism, is an organism that consists of only one cell, unlike a multicellular organism that consists of more than one cell.
What are bacteria? Unicellular organisms that lack a nucleus and other organelles.
What are protists? Any of various one-celled organisms, classified in the kingdom Protista.
What is mitosis? Mitosis is a process where a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells.
What is cancer? A disease caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells.
What is chemotherapy? Use of drugs to destroy cancer cells.
What is a tumor? A group of cancer cells, can be benign or malignant.
