Define pre-production. Pre-production is the first stage in creating a film. In this stage, the producers gather everything necessary to the film, such as settings, actors, props and all of the other people important to creating the film.
Define production. This is the second stage of film making, where the actual filming takes place. All of the actors/actresses must know their scripts, their costumes perfect and their placements in the movie must be right.
Define post-production. This is the third stage in film making. In this stage, the film is cut and edited, the sounds are made perfectly for film, and the movie is finished and released to the public.
What is a foley artist? A foley artist is someone that creates sounds for a film with unique objects. For example, one may use a whistle for the sound of a falling bomb.
What is the lighting underneath a person or object called? Sometimes it is called Halloween lighting.
What is the average used:unused footage? 20:1
What is dubbing? Dubbing is when rerecording takes place to edit voices, sound effects and music.
What does a sound designer do? A sound designer is in charge of all of the sounds and music in a film.
What are the two primary light sources? The two primary light sources are natural and artificial.
What do you call natural and seamless editing? Continuity.
What is the direct light on a performer/object? Focusable spotlights.
Define diagetic sound? Diagetic sound is sound that is represented in the world of the film, such as sound effects or characters talking.
Define non-diagetic sound. Non-diagetic sound is represented outside of the world of the film, for instance a soundtrack or score.
What is a pan shot? A pan shot is a horizontal movement of the camera.
What was Lev Kuleshov famous for? Lev Kuleshov was known for juxtaposing two pictures side by side and the audience to formulate a story.
Define cutting. Cutting is when the editors chop up the film and remove unnecessary footage.
What do you call it when a film is pieced back together? Pasting.
