| How do religious organisations promote world peace? | Quakers and Muslim Peace Fellowship- organise public debates about the horrors of war; organise anti-war protests; attend inter-faith conferences; work for economic fairness |
| Why do wars occur? | Religion- religious differences such as the Crusades when Christians tried to force people to convert. Nationalism- thinking that all minorities should be removed from your country e.g. Hitler and his treatment of the Jews. Economics- invading a country for its resources e.g.the first Gulf War. Moral reasons- one country feels obliged to attack another to restore the inhabitant's human rights e.g war with Syria. Political differences- e.g North Korea invading South Korea to unite them both under communism. |
| What is the Just War Theory? | A war is just if; the cause of the war is just, e.g. to remove a form of injustice; is fought to restore peace; is a last resort and avoids killing civillians |
| What are the pacifistic Christian attitudes to war e.g. Quakers, Pax Christi etc. ? | 5th Commandment- "Do not kill." Jesus said 'turn the other cheek' Jesus said 'love your enemies' Jesus said 'those who live by sword die by the sword' |
| What are the Christian attitudes for war? | All churches say you can fight in a just war. St Paul said you should follow the orders of your government. Jesus said 'Give to Caesar what is Caesar's'. Jesus never condemned the soldiers he met. |
| What are the Islamic attitudes to war? | Qur'an says Muslims must fight if attacked. Muhammad fought in wars. Muhammad said that Muslims must fight in just wars. If Muslims die in a just war then they go straight to heaven. |

| What are the Muslim attitudes to bulling? | Islamic society is based on the idea of mutual respect. Violence without cause is sinful. The Qur'an says that Muslims should protect the weak and the innocent. Mistreating God's creation. |
| What are the religious conflicts in families? | Children no longer want to be part of their parents religion- parents worry children will not be with them in the after life; worry their children will become immoral. Children want to marry outside faith-which religion will their children be raised in?; where will they be buried? Children become more religious than parents- may become a priest, so the family will have no grandchildren. Disagreements over moral issues- a catholic who decides to get divorced; a couple decide to live together before getting married. |
| What are the Christian teachings forgiveness and reconciliation? | Jesus died to bring about forgiveness of man's sins and to reconcile humans with God. God forgives those who asks, so should we. St Paul said Christians should try to live in peace with one another, these concepts will help that happen All Churches teach Christians that they should follow these ideas. |
| What are the Muslim teachings on forgiveness and reconciliation? | God is a compassionate to sinners, so should they be. Qur'an tells Muslims to forgive . they should obey they Qur'an because it is the word of God. Hadith (Saying of Muhammad) show him forgiving people and reconciling after battles. Muslims should follow his examples. Can only ask God for forgiveness if you have been so on earth. SHOULD NOT FORGIVE THOSE THAT WORK AGAINST ISLAM |
