Question Answer
Integer a number that has a direction (shown by the sign) and a distance (shown by the absolute value)
Direction of an Integer: Positive - right of zero Negative - left of zero
Absolute Value the distance from zero. Absolute value has no sign. It is NOT positive or negative.
Opposite the opposite of an integer is the integer with an opposite sign
To Use a Number Line to Do Integer Addition or Subtraction: 1) Draw a number line with an appropriate scale. 2) Find and label the starting value. 3) Beginning at the starting value, drawn in steps shown by the operation in your expression. 4) Find and label your finishing value.
Disk/Chip Model is based on using two different chips to represent positive and negative values (basically, another way to show work for adding or subtracting negative or positive integers)
Equivalent Expressions expressions that look different, but represent the same value
Multiplying and Dividing Integers: Positive x Positive = Positive Positive x Negative = Negative Negative x Negative = Positive Negative x Positive = Negative
