What is cell signalling? How cell communicate with each other, this is a process where one cell will release a chemical that is detected by another cell. The second cell will respond to the signal released by the first cell.
Define stimulus A stimulus is any change in the environment that causes a response.
Define response A response is a change in behaviour or physiology as a result of a change in the environment.
A good communication system will: - cover the whole body -enable cells to communicate to each other -enable specific communication -enable rapid communication -enable both short and long term responses
Define homeostasis Homeostasis is the maintenance of the internal environment in a constant state despite external changes.
What is negative feedback? The reversal of a change in the internal environment to return to a steady state or optimum position.
What is positive feed back? Is a process that increases any changes detected by the receptors.
Define ectotherm Is an organism that relies on external sources of heat to regulate its body temperature.
Define endotherm Is an organism that can use internal sources of heat, to maintain its body temperature
