What is cell signalling? | How cell communicate with each other, this is a process where one cell will release a chemical that is detected by another cell. The second cell will respond to the signal released by the first cell. |
Define stimulus | A stimulus is any change in the environment that causes a response. |
Define response | A response is a change in behaviour or physiology as a result of a change in the environment. |
A good communication system will: | - cover the whole body -enable cells to communicate to each other -enable specific communication -enable rapid communication -enable both short and long term responses |
Define homeostasis | Homeostasis is the maintenance of the internal environment in a constant state despite external changes. |
What is negative feedback? | The reversal of a change in the internal environment to return to a steady state or optimum position. |
What is positive feed back? | Is a process that increases any changes detected by the receptors. |
Define ectotherm | Is an organism that relies on external sources of heat to regulate its body temperature. |
Define endotherm | Is an organism that can use internal sources of heat, to maintain its body temperature |
